How Much Does Your State Care About the Environment? a blog post by EcoGoodz, credential clothing suppliers

Inhabitat is “is a weblog devoted to the future of design, tracking the innovations in technology, practices and materials that are pushing architecture and home design towards a smarter and more sustainable future.” (emphasis added). Last year they compiled data using Google Trends and composed an infographic illustrating which states care most about the environment.

In their own words, “Using Google Trends, we searched common environmentally friendly phrases and terms (over the last 12 months) to gauge state-level interest in green activities.”

The premise is interesting. Rather than rely on statistical data from municipal waste reports, their research analyzed peoples’ online search patterns. For example, Washington, California, Minnesota, and New Jersey were the top 5 states in which people searched the phrase “how to recycle”, while California, Hawaii, Washington, Georgia, and Utah were the top 5 states that googled the phrase “how to reuse”. Take a look:

What is the takeaway? For us, it’s that people care! People care enough about the environment to research alternative disposal methods for their solid waste. People care enough about the environment to research how to reuse items to increase their purposefulness and longevity. People care enough about the environment to research alternative energy methods such as solar panels.

Now that we know which states are generally interested in reducing, reusing, and recycling, t would be interesting to know which states are the most interested in textile recycling! As credential clothing suppliers (we sell wholesale used clothing), we are strong advocates for the proper disposal (for lack of a better word) of used clothing. 95% of textiles can be recycled or reused. The 5% that can’t be reused or recycled are textiles that have been contaminated by chemicals and/or mildew. We’d be very interested to know which states rank the highest for textile donation and/or recycling! Stay tuned and we just might tell you!
