Upcycled Gear, Recycled Supplies, and Used Clothing: The New Cool of Back-to-School

Upcycled Gear, Recycled Supplies, and Used Clothing: The New Cool of Back-to-School, a blog post by EcoGoodz

Used Clothing:

Buying used clothing is the most environmentally-friendly practice for purchasing clothing. Buying organic clothing and/or fair-trade clothing is a very close second, but in our opinion, it’s still better to buy second hand whenever possible.

From well-known thrift stores to high-end boutiques, there are many options available for buying secondhand clothing.

Recycled Supplies:

Here are just a few of the recycled supplies we found. Crayons, rulers, and other supplies can also be made of recycled materials. Paints, markers, and glues are available in non-toxic and biodegradable formulas.

Newspaper Pencils

Recycled Newspaper Pencils - Set of 24, featured in a blog post by EcoGoodz, a mixed rags supplier

From The Ultimate Green Store product description: TreeSmart’s Pencils, made from 100% Recycled Newspaper are completely tree free. TreeSmart has developed a process that essentially “turns the paper back into wood” making the pencils just as hard and solid as wood. The barrels of these pencils are tightly rolled from torn strips of “yesterday’s news”! They write smooth and consistent, sharpen easily, and support recycling.

Upcycled Gear:

These two items are our absolute favorite. How cool is it that these used to be food wrappers?? They could’ve easily ended up in the landfill, but were instead rescued and upcycled into gear your child can use all year long. And to top it all off, when your child outgrows them or finishes using them, they can be sent back to Terracycle and re-used again in other products! Win, win, win.

TerraCycle is an industrial waste management company that has launched a campaign to collect these used Clif Kid Z Bar Health Bars and remake them into new products – a process called ‘upcycling.’
