Used Clothes Matter, an EcoGoodz Infographic
Used Clothes {and shoes} Matter
Used clothes, used shoes, used linens, used towels, and other fabric-based products–these make up a category generally referred to as textiles. According the EPA, the average American throws away upwards of 70 lbs of textiles each year. What most people don’t realize, however, is that nearly 100% of what they throw away can actually be reused or recycled!
70 lbs per person may not seem like much, but it adds up to a whopping 3.8 billion pounds of unnecessary textile waste in our nation’s landfills, which accounts for 5.4% of the total waste in landfills. With your help, we can change that! The next time you clean out your closet, donate your gently used textile items to a charity or thrift store. You may no longer want or need it, but someone else might! If you have pieces that are stained, torn, missing buttons, or have broken zippers, do a little research and find a place that will accept such items. Even imperfect pieces can be reused and/or recycled.
Donated items that are in good condition can be resold in secondhand stores. Imperfect items that are not suitable for resale can be turned into industrial wiping rags. They can also be shredded and returned to a fibrous state, then used in products such as upholstery filling, home insulation, yarn, and carpet padding.
If, however, a secondhand store can’t sell an item, or if it is imperfect and unsuitable for resale, we buy it. EcoGoodz is a used clothing wholesaler in the USA. We buy mixed rags (imperfect items and/or items that didn’t sell in a resale setting), paired shoes, bulk linens, credential clothing (unsorted, ungraded donations still in their original bags), and more. We sell bales of used clothing, capsacks of paired shoes, bales of linens, and bales of credential clothing at wholesale prices to countries around the world with an emphasis on developing nations.
Ecological and environmental matters aside, your used clothing and shoes matter because when you donate your used clothing, you support the charitable institutions to which you’ve donated. These institutions depend on your donations to fund job training, rehabilitation, and other programs. Your used clothes and shoes matter because they might end up being worn or used by people thousands of miles away in developing nations. And so you see, your used shoes may not matter to you anymore, but they matter a to a great many others; your used clothing may not matter to you anymore, but it also matters to a great many others.
